Ingy arrived in Madrid on Sunday afternoon. She was supposed to make it in the day before but due to the strike her plane was diverted to Rome and she made it in a day late. I met her at the arrival gate at the airport and we took the metro from the airport to the train station where we bought tickets for Segovia Spain. Segovia is about 60 miles north of madrid and has a population of around 55,000 people. The two main attractions of the city is the Aqueduct and the Alcazar.
The Aqueduct of Segovia is one of the main tourist sights of the city. The date of its construction goes back to the end 1st century or early 2nd century. It is the roman civil engineering work most important in Spain. The aqueduct was constructed of 25,000 granite blocks together without any mortar, has a length of 760 meters, consists of more than 166 arches and its tallest point is almost 100 feet tall.
The other attraction of the city that is really impressive is the the Alcazar of Segovia. This royal palace is built on a high point at the far end of the city and is protected my a gorge on one side and a large moat on the other. Walt Disney modeled the castle in Sleeping Beauty from the design of this castle. The Alcazar dates back from the early days of the 12th century.
The town was very pretty, we also went to the cathedral which was very interesting. Below are some photos from our trip.
