Carnaval celebration at my school

On March 4th we celebrated carnaval at the school I work at. Carnaval is a festive season before Lent.  It is more a catholic relgiious tradition and is celebrated throughout Spain. It is usually celebrated with a public parade and celebration. Everyone at the school dressed up in costume which is part of the Carnaval celebration. I found a chicken costume and bought it to use for the party at school and the weekend festivities in Cadiz.

Each class had a theme. The kids and teachers all dressed in similar costumes to identify with their theme. Some themes were Snow White, 101 Dalmations, Alice and the Wonderland, Deck, Wizard of Oz.. etc..

The parents came too and they planned a parade around the school. It was such a fun event. They had the streets blocked off and a lead car that had the trunk open with a large stereo system blasting music. The kids were all given confetti and streamers to throw, along w/ noise makers to parade up and down the street with.

I was impressed by the parade. After they had the city workers come and clean up all the confetti and streamers off the ground. Everyone went back in and had recess and at some food.
